Reason #13 – Tinder

Tinder logo

It’s important to accept the fact that online dating is a thing. There is nothing wrong with online dating, and choosing to meet loved ones in that way is something that people can do and it definitely allows certain people to find love. However, there is something very different about Tinder, and apps similar.

Tinder gives you images of people and you swipe right if you like the person’s appearance, and left if you are not interested. While simple, and enjoyable, it creates many false ideas about relationships, self-confidence, and human connection.

Tinder creates the idea that what you see is what you get, but it also expresses that relationships are about getting, rather than giving. Look at how many online dating sites, including Tinder, start the process: you create a profile, showing off your strengths, interests, and hobbies. Instead of creating an image of yourself, you create an advertisement for yourself, only showing what is best about you and hiding your weaknesses. When one reads these, they are looking at what they will get out of you by being in a relationship with you. “This person like playing Munchkin, I also like playing Munchkin, we would get along well.” A relationship where two people are getting from each other but not giving creates expectations, and when those expectations don’t get met, they become disappointed. Many marriages fail in society today because couples never actually knew each other intimately and genuinely, but expected each other to fulfill each other’s happiness and life goals. It is impossible to live up to such a standard. Relationships about getting only bring disappointment, relationships about giving to each other bring life, and that is something you cannot get out of an application like Tinder.

Tinder creates a space for people to remind themselves that they are still attractive and acceptable to others without changing anything about their character, when in reality, the piece of a person one will connect with the most is the heart. Many people today struggle with self-image and self-confidence, they feel that their body is not how it should be, or something is just not right about them. Tinder allows people who struggle with body image to create a boost to their confidence because through every match that is made, you are reminded that someone thought you were good looking enough to swipe right. While this is a good thing, to be reminded of someone’s outer beauty, it creates a false sense of self-confidence. It enforces the idea that I am beautiful because other people think I am beautiful. The only way this can be continually reinforced is through constant manipulation of self to maintain an image of what is considered ‘attractive’ to others. There is no acceptance of your appearance, nor is there personal reinforcement of integrity, there is only the push from outside influences that your acceptance comes from your attractiveness. This has created people so desperate for attention and positive reinforcement that it has created people who only see others as a mouth to tell them their worth. Endlessly exchanging compliments and begging for positive words. It’s unhealthy, and it won’t end in a healthy relationship in the long run as well because you will be looking for your acceptance through other people when you need to accept yourself who you are.

In college, your best friends will not be made until the second semester of school. This is because the first semester you have to feel through all the artificial bullshit before you find people who will help you grow as a human being. At first, you find people who echo yourself(You like alt-rock? I like alt-rock! We must be best friends), but over time, you learn the true character of many of these original friends(You may like alt-rock, but you’re a dick. You treat your friends like trash and refuse to do well in school), because while you may share interests, you do not share values. Even then, people who choose to live in an echo-box of their own opinions generally do not ever grow out of not living in one. Get out of your comfort zone, go meet people different than you, and grow up because of it. Genuine, human connection is not done through an app, but through the heart. You can use an app, but it is not the imperative.

Reason #12 – How changing a font can change the entire message of your brand

It’s amazing how much colour and shape make us perceive things differently. For example, most people see the colour red as a sign of urgency and emergency, this is why stop signs and stop lights are red, same with red tags indicating a sale on an item. It’s basic colour psychology. The shape of something does this as well, we are more likely to engage with something that looks easy to use and fun rather than a complicated piece of equipment that we have no knowledge of how to use.

Observe how effectively this changes the meaning by just changing the font and colours of this design.

Look how dirty the look becomes! The fact that the mind instantly notices the change and identifies one as childish and fun and the other as fun, just shows how humanity thinks. If it wants to think dirty, it will, and there is no pure, unaltered state. Humanity sucks because we can turn everything into some sort of dirty joke, it doesn’t keep clean or proper in any sense, it’s natural state is animalistic and self indulging.

And that is kinda gross and selfish of us.

Reason #11 – Making big bucks by selling fake dietary supplements

‘Buyer beware.’

A Canadian study has revealed that DNA testing on hundreds of bottles of store-brand herbal supplements sold as treatments for everything from memory loss to prostate trouble found that four out of five contained none of the herbs on the label. Instead, they were packed with cheap fillers such as wheat, rice, beans or houseplants. Included in these sellers are Target, Walgreens, GNC, and Walmart.

Our hard earned money is going to this.

Im sitting over here trying to think healthy and take herbal supplements and spend a good chunk of money on them, and as it turns out, most of them aren’t even actual herbal supplements.

Who is left to trust?

Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Philippians 2:14-16

This truly is  a crooked and twisted generation.

Then again, haven’t we always been?

Reason #10 – Killing Babies Out Of Fear

So let’s talk about how culture ruins the good of people. If you are so scared of making a mistake, then you are so scared of the consequences that you are drawn towards inhumane actions. Such as this person here.

Sarah Leung was sentenced for five years for killing her two babies. This wasn’t any normal kind of infanticide though.

Giving birth twice in the bathroom of her parents’ home before wrapping each baby in plastic, she left one propped against a neighbour’s house in the spring of 2009, while she threw the second, born less than a year later, in the trash. The fear of the judgement and rejection of her parents because of her choices is what brought this to such horrible outcomes.

No child should be denied its existence because of social fears in a family. This is as dark as it could be. The parents should be just as harshly punished for such little acceptance of their daughter.

Reason #9- Porn in the Church

Pornography is prevalent everywhere today. In fact, one in eight online searches is for pornography. Because porn use thrives in secrecy, many church members are trapped in a cycle of sin and shame, thinking that they’re the only ones facing this temptation.

  • 51% of Pastors say Internet pornography is a possible temptation. 37% say it is a current struggle. 4 in 10 pastors have visited a porn website. ~Christianity Today, Leadership survey, Dec 2001
  • Of those polled at a Promise Keepers event, 50%  said they had checked out pornographic material within the past week
  • Almost half of Christians surveyed said pornography is a major problem in the home.
  • The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers reports that 56% of divorce cases involve one party having “an obsessive interest in pornographic websites.”
  • Today, 68% of young adult men and 18% of women use porn at least once every week. Another 17% and another 30% of women use porn 1-2 times per month. This means for 85% of young men and nearly half of young women, watching porn is at least a monthly activity. This includes Christians. The numbers for Christians virtually mirror the numbers for non Christians

Scripture about Sexual Purity:

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, `Do not commit adultery.’  But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)

“No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual sin, impurity, lust, and shameful desires.  Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience… Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.  And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love… For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” (Colossians 3:5, 12-15)

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” (James 5:16)

Reason #8 – Female on Male Rape

*Disclaimer: This post does not intend to lower the validity or pain that is caused by other forms of sexual abuse. This post was written in light of the lack of awareness around the prevalence of male sexual abuse caused by women.*

Every once and awhile on reddit there is an askreddit post that is different than the same 50 questions that get asked every day. This was one of those questions.

In this society, we seen men as strong, able, and sexual. If a guy isn’t interested in having sex with a beautiful woman who is interested, they are considered to be off intelligently and get pushed to the side. If a girl forces herself upon a guy, the male is seen as ‘lucky for getting someone who is interested’, when in reality, the male who has experienced this is now questioning not only his view of himself as a man but also his trust in women.

This redditor tells his story of how his trust in the opposite sex was seen as a joke and an accomplishment by his peers. Did you read that? Read his story again and see the failure in not only his friends, but also the woman in question here.

It’s one problem that women are taking advantage of men sexually, but another major issue amongst this is that law enforcement and authority is so biased for the women that no one takes the male who has been harmed seriously. There are countless stories online of law enforcement discarding male sexual abuse cases in favour of the women. Here are just a few examples. What is even worse is that the law is so skewed towards women and sexual abuse that even if a woman is pressed charges, it can easily be reversed. If the sexual abuse happens with no protection, the man may even have to pay child support for a child they had no desire to be a part of making.

This is proof that not only has society created such ingrained gender roles that skew the law and equality on gender, but that women can take advantage of this and hurt other men, not just stealing their finances for selfish gain, but also their own dignity and self identity. Countless stories posted by redditors on various threads similar to the one posted above, and they all show that women can take advantage of a man, and even say if they struggle, the woman will cry rape and all support will be pushed towards the female party, disregarding any evidence against it and any pain and trauma that the male is experiencing.

Female on male rape is prevalent in our modern society, and the law is in the women’s favour, this needs to change. Luckily, laws are becoming more ambiguous to not be so black and white on the gender that the perpetrator is. The attitudes of certain criminal investigators are starting to become less male dominant and less blind eyed. But that doesn’t change the fact that there is still very little acceptance or awareness of what happens to 1 in 6 guys in college campuses.

Something needs to happen, before it gets worse.

Reason #7 – People Bending iPhones at the Apple Store on Purpose

#Bendgate #yolo420

With the hype and excitement(or annoyance, depending on your fanboyism) of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, things always come up. There began to be reports that the 6 and 6 Plus were starting to bend under the immense thinness and size. This reality is that it was happening, but it only happened to a tiny number of people in a real world setting. In a statement released by Apple, a total of 9 people within the first 6 days of release have reported that their phones have bent.

Of course, this doesn’t stop a mockery train. All aboard the karma train. All the other rival companies started making mock ads in response to the fad of the bending issue, which while funny, is still based on a misconception.

Cue this article.

Seriously, you break a companies property for the views and the enjoyment of other people? Pretty sure that is called vandalism.

You show your faces and keep your names? So first you have stupidity on your list of abilities, but thinking things through gets to be next.

Reason #6- Absent Fathers

This one really sucks.

There is a crisis in America. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 24 million children in America—one out of three—live without their biological dad in the home. Also, children of single mothers show higher levels of aggressive behaviour and emotional instability  than children born to married mothers. (Journal of Marriage and Family).

Its literally called Abandoned child syndrome.

Other possible issues include: depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, teen pregnancy, poor academic performance, delinquency and homelessness.

Its a big deal.

Raising a kid is hard, but living life without a father is far worse.

Two people are ready to have sex when they are ready to have a  child.

Fathers are biological necessities, but social accidents.

Reason #5 – Making up Science to Sell Overpriced Electronics

We all know about that electronics cost money. Some may argue that certain electronics cost more because they are just gouging you for money, and some may actually be worth what they cost. We all know that there are overhead costs above production of material, such as paying staff and customer service, and other things relating to administration and leadership.

But you can tell when something is blatantly being price jumped just of the sake of profit. I am not pointing any fingers at any company in particular, but you can know who I am talking about.

In this article posted a hell of a long time ago, it gives plenty of bad science you can avoid for future purchases.

Don’t worry, there are good companies making good products. They are hard to find, but they exist.

Reason #4 – Fat Shaming

This article goes beyond fat shaming. It is called ‘Why fat girls don’t deserve to be loved’.

Who takes time out of their day to write and publish articles like  this now online? I mean, really?

The article tries to use ‘facts’ to  back up the argument, facts like:

Fat girls have a low IQ.

Fat girls are sluts.

Fat mothers are guilty of child abuse

The list goes on. Where is he getting this information from?

If anything, it is laughable, and goes to show the lengths humanity goes to just to…make themselves feel better?

Try to finish the article. I had a hard time.
